Hon. George Price having a conversation with Fidel Castro, 2005
For George Price Day we don't seem to have commented about the special meritorious award given to him by the country of Cuba.
In 1999 during the time of Right Hon. Prime Minister Said Musa a large delegation comprising of members of cabinet and CEOs visted Cuba. According to PM Right Honorable Said Musa (1998-2008), the country of Belize needed to show its gratitude for the many supports the country and people of Cuba gave to Belize, and so President Fidel Castro was bestowed the highest award our country could offer "The Order of Belize".
President Fidel Castro wanted to show his appreciation too for this gift by offering Right Hon Said Musa Cuba's highest award, "The Jose Marti Award".
The Right Honorable Said Musa saw the award more befitting for the Leader Emeritus Hon. George Price.
In April 2005 the Leader Emeritus travelled to Cuba to be bestowed this award. This was Hon George Price's second trip to Cuba, the first one being in the 1940s as Mr. Sidney Thurton's secretary.
