Punta Gorda light plant in the early 1960's
It never used to run all day, it cut off at 10 pm. Not only did the lights go out at 10pm, but there were none on any streets except Front and Main Streets. Folks used to walk with flash lights at night. As they'd say now: no sweat! That light plant house was situated behind the old Civic Center, where the Maura Lopez Market is now, next to the Central Park.
Fire Chief Mr. Amos Palacio is on the right (Jane Noralez:
Slim and trim like mango limb), they use to dress like police in those days. Lindsay Ramirez is in the middle, he was the Light plant operator.
Colin Gillett:
I was one of the technicians that went to set up the last diesel power station at Eldridge before the transmission line was extended. Wonderful days beautiful memories.
