A vintage photo of a fishing boat called a "smack" as it leaves Caye Caulker, circa 1950's
I remember my grandfather a fisherman his entire life referring to them as fishing smack. Those ‘smacks’ had a built in well in the center bottom of the boat which allowed the sea water to move in and out. They kept their fresh catch of fish in there until they reached market. I remember when we were at the market I would go inside the well with my little net catching the fish that were hiding, it was fun. Every summer I would go with gramps, I had lots of fun seeing all the different types of fish been caught, I was about 11 years old, magnificent memories.
