What Lies Beneath... skulls and skeletons dug up by archaeologist Dr. David Michael Pendergast FRSC near Elvi's Restaurant in San Pedro, about 1993
Eli Pearly:
This was about 1993? They were digging up all the front and middle streets in SP to put new huge water pipes and Richie Woods would sit in the huge machines and when they would dig When they would find something he was there to assist.
Also on the side street near Ms Elvies in front of where Enrique had his money changing office they dug and found items.
Kathleen Hoffman:
That area must have been by the first cemetery, there were remains also found in the early 1970 time frame. When they were digging the area that the Sands Hotel sits on, which is right in front of Elvi's.
They said that the teeth were filed into points.
Kay Scott:
Yes, Wil Lala who lived here, and who's a dentist, had some of those teeth that were filed into points. He said he had no idea how that could have been done. I had photos of them, they're somewhere among all my photos I can't find. Theses photos were taken behind Elvis where a pre-school is now. After a while, it was decided to stop the archeologists because there would be just too many areas to dig. I don't remember what year it was.
Marsha Hartley Muller:
John and Jeannie had some found in the yard behing the Barrier Reef and that was before I got there.
Simon Backley:
David Pendergast was a great guy, he discovered the Jade Head. He is pictured below with Liz Graham, his wife, who did much of the research at Marco Gonzales and was also head of Archaeology for Belize.
