I learned to appreciate Belize after a trip to Jamaica. Hotels fenced out locals and ran barbed wire into the ocean to keep them off the beach. Belize Law that makes all beach and piers public is keeping Belize a beautiful place to live.
Belize Tourism is about the people even as much as it is the reef. Foreigners gating piers and putting up signs that say private ruin the friendly ambiance for our guest. Everyone has a right to fish, lay in the sun, dock their boats and come and go as they please on every pier and beach in the country according to Belize law.
