24-hour forecast: Sunny with some cloudy spells today and cloudy at times tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will be isolated and a few more occurring inland today, then mainly over central and southern areas tonight.

Outlook: Some cloudy spells with isolated showers and thunderstorms over most places. While a few more may develop over central and inland areas on Monday and then over the southern districts Monday night.
Sargassum Forecast from August 19, 2020 to August 25, 2020: Observations continue to show an abundance of sargassum mats making landfall on beaches across the country and this is expected to continue through to next week. San Pedro has a high probability and a major expected impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: At 12:00am Tropical Storm Laura was centered near latitude 18.6N, longitude 70.1W, or about 15 miles WNW of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Tropical Storm Marco was centered near latitude 23.1N, longitude 86.6W, or about 135 miles NW of western Cuba. Click for more...

The Caribbean Sea

A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 69W, from 14N southward, moving W 10 knots. A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 77W/78W, from Jamaica southward, moving W 15 knots. The monsoon trough is along 11N73W in NE Colombia near the border with Venezuela, to 12N80W, to 13N85W in Nicaragua, and westward, through Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, into the eastern Pacific Ocean. Precipitation: isolated moderate to locally strong is from 04N to 13N between the 69W tropical wave and 81W. The precipitation covers interior sections of Colombia and Venezuela, parts of the Caribbean Sea, and the coastal waters of Colombia in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong is in central Nicaragua.

Tropical Storm Marco center near 22.8N 86.3W 996 mb at 11 PM EDT is moving NNW at 11 kt. Maximum sustained winds 55 kt gusts 65 kt. Marco will intensify to a hurricane near 24.3N 87.1W Sun morning with maximum sustained winds 65 kt gusts to 80 kt; reach to near 26.3N 87.9W Sun evening with maximum sustained winds 70 kt gusts 85 kt.

Tropical Storm Laura center near near 18.5N 69.7W 1003 mb at 11 PM EDT is moving WNW at 18 kt. Maximum sustained winds 45 kt gusts 55 kt. Laura will maintain intensity as it moves inland over the Dominican Republic to near 19.3N 72.3W Sun morning; inland to near 20.6N 76.0W Sun evening; inland to near 22.1N 79.6W Mon morning; then into the extreme southeastern Gulf of Mexico near 23.4N 83.0W Mon evening with maximum sustained winds 50 kt gusts to 60 kt.
