The PUC was going to issue their findings last Monday. Has anyone seen anything on the news yet?

It seems that SKYPE and Packet 8 are no longer working. My service has been unuseable for around a week. It may be that I am on the North end. Are any of the VOIP's working in San Pedro?

No, doesnt have anything to do with where you are on the island...they have accomplished their goal of blocking Skype as well as Vonage.....I did read something that said BTL was "working on their own VOIP"...we know that could take months...in the meantime, losing business every day; less $ for GOB; less $ for us.....but I guess it is the principal.......

As you may have already experienced, the PUC decision that individual service providers may block VoIP has resulted in BTL halting most VoIP calls. There was much discussion and concern on the existing situation. Steve DeMaio noted that cable does work with VoIP and he continues to offer Skype at Coconets.

Belize..wow. Interesting. Yup..they're blocking it because VoIP can use lots
of bandwidth so they're
trying to limit it. It should work. If it does, please spread the word. smile

We have users in China that use pVPN to bypass the blocking there so I have
high hopes it will work.
Plus, everything is encrypted so if it goes through they won't know kind of
traffic it is anyways so
they should leave it alone.

If it doesn't work, write u sback and we'll issue an immediate refund to
your credit card.

Breaking the Ashcroft Code: Kudos go to another poster (who will make themselves unanonymous when ready) Yes, download vpn. You're off and talking. BTL is now doing random testing with less expsnive program from Canada that will block Vonage and Skype, in spite of the PUC ruling.

The following is a copy of an email and reply that I recieved from the President of WiFi Consulting regarding the ability to overcome blocking of VOIP's

To: [email protected]
Subject: Skype

"I have a condo on Abergris Caye, Belize. I have wired in DSL service.
I use Skype (VOIP) for communicating with the US while in Belize. More
frequently than not, Belize Telephone Limited who's lines are used for
the internet connection, blocks Skype & other similar VOIP's. Will your
program alleviate the problem & if so, which one of your programs would
you recommend. I have Windows XP."
Thanks,

His Reply:
Yes it works. We have a lot of customers using the service just this
way. I actually did some tech support with a customer in China (I'm in
Washington DC) and it sounded suprisingly good. The best sounding
solution is to use a computer with a USB headset and then use
hotspotVPN2, change the default hsvpn2 config from tcp to udp for better
sound quality. It also allows you to take advantage of Skype's free
calls to the US and Canada for the rest of the year even though Skype is
limiting this to Skype calls that originate in the US.

Thank you.

It sounds good to me. I'm going to try it when we get back down in September. Only around $8.00 per month.
