I have made plans to visit San Pedro this winter. The two things that appealed to me most were the people and the diving. I have heard many favorable comments about the people...and how they are sooo friendly.

Unfortunately that is not the same impression I have after following this forum (a few threads to be exact) for a couple days. I realize one or two people do not make up the entire population ...but it certainly gives a negative image to an outsider.

To the people of San Pedro, realize that this forum is a window to the rest of the world....many of whom have never visited your island....but are considering to do so.

Although I am not a citizen of Belize.....I still get to vote with my dollars....and I have already decided some people do not deserve my business while I am on the island.

Is there a place on earth where you will not find a few abrasive personalities? Or some personality conflicts? I see the same thing on the board, and some other boards also. I have been around a fair number of spots in the Carib, some numerous times. I find the overall people of San Pedro to be warm and friendly, more so than any other places I have visited. Visit and you will see. Spend your money as you see fit, that is your right. My opinion is that the competition for your dollar is stiff. Places that prove they don't deserve your dollar don't do very well for very long.

I found over the years that most San Pedranos are not only warm, & friendly but also helpful and honest. Unlike other destinations the locals & visitors all mingle in the same stores, restaurants, watering holes & fun events. The beach is Queensland so all can use it. I love watching children walk the beach to & from school -boy did I miss out! Out in a boat, most guides know each other & will help anyone who needs it, as there is no "coast guard" to rescue you, I think this shows the genuineness of the locals reliance on each other to live the Ambergris life. Some persons on Ambergris Caye are refugees from other Central American Countries not true San Pedranos. Also visitors to the Island can be rude or friendly and that makes for different results & opinions. I believe if you are good to them they will return goodness. If you are rude, Too drunk (if possible) or disorderly you will be treated differently, just as you would anywhere.

Amigos Del Mar Diving has always been great to my family of snorkelers & divers. They even had a person to snorkel with my disabled brother when we went out - no extra charge.
Go, Enjoy diving the reef, the San Pedrano Channel, Hol Chan preserve (especially at night),
Mexico Rocks, Caye Caulker, etc.
The San Pedranos are friendly & lovable IMO.
Belize it!

Margarita nailed it. In most places, you are a "guest" in their country. In San Pedro, you are a guest of the town. Big difference.

Go ozark, enjoy, relax, form your own opinions. You have the best advice in the world from those posts above. People like yourself. People who enjoy getting away from all the day-to-day BS one endures for a respite. Don't let the petty squabbles you might see here over "who's is bigger" skew your experience - or the local island flavor.

thank you KCL....good advice. I know there are some really good people on the island....I just wish some of the others would think before airing all their gripes in front of the whole world! If the same amount of energy was put to use promoting San Pedro and helping prospective visitors....just think of the possibilities!

Here is an example of someone who puts his energy towards promoting San Pedro. I have received a lot of help from a gentleman named Marty on this forum. Although I have never met him and I have no idea what he does (other than this forum), he is a tremendous asset to the San Pedro community!

Most of the people on this board do not live in San Pedro. The people actually in SP are much friendlier than most of us posting here.
