Hello, I'm trying to figure out a good menu for my wedding. Does anyone have any recommendations on "must do" foods? I would like to choose some foods that are somewhat of a specialty in Belize, yet keeping in mind I eat typical American food and I can't handle too much ethnic food. What kind of chicken dish is really good on the island? I think I might be choosing a caterer that runs the restaurant El Fogon. So, anybody have any great experiences with certain dishes from that restaurant? Thanks for any suggestions!

Someone just posted a similar question last week. Try doing a search for caterering.
Dining out and grocery stores are expensive on the island. Spending three times the price on food is my grandson's biggest complaint. I will ask him about El Fogon since I do not know them. How did you hear of them?

Salbutes, plantains, tamalitos, stew chicken, there are too many to list. Belizean food is very tasty and flavorful but not spicy, Give your taste buds a whirl.

Susanna Eiley is one of the best. Her "Pibil" is famous on the island and a tradition at most Belizean weddings. The girls at Fogon and Hical Kik (?) are her sisters and equally as impressive.

Congrats!

I just talked to grandson and he thinks Hical kik is delicious. He said it is one of the most reasonably priced places to eat. Good to know. Thank you SIN for your information as well.

Jessie, the family of El Fogon and Hakal Kiik are from the island and have been in the catering business for years. Shelly is the one who does lots of weddings and events. I am sure you will be happy. Rebecca at Tabu is a wonderful cook too.
Good luck.

The El Fogon folks did a pibil pig for me earlier this year. It was fantastic. It is also a great "event" meal. It is a 2 day event and worth every penny. When they did our pig they also did a stew chicken, and rice and beans. Fruit bowls topped the whole meal off. We fed about 120 people. I am sure they can handle smaller or larger groups.

Xanadu will be such a beautiful setting.
