Hello all...

I'm so sorry for abusing this board, since my post isn't related to Belize. However, I can't find any active message boards regarding Barbados.

My husband and I are traveling to Barbados on August 22nd and I was wondering if any one here has been there and if you had any tips for us. We've pretty much exhausted all the resources on the internet, so we have a really good plan of events.

I was hoping to chat with someone that's actually been there and has any "do's" or "dont's" from their experience.

BTW...we went to Belize in Sept of 2000 and LOVED it!! We stayed at Journey's End and it was fantastic:)

Thanks in advance for any help tossed our way.

No problem..you can email and I'll try to answer your questions the best I can [email protected]

However, I must warn you. I was there after staying 3 weeks on Bequia and it was a major culture shock in regards to traffic and prices. I think I would have been happier if I had stayed away from the St. Lawrence Gap and perhaps further south or out by Bathsheba. It's a beautiful island when you get away from the major city.

Thanks so much for your feeback:)

We're staying on the South side of the island. Has anyone been to the Bougainvialle Resort? Oh, God, tell me if you have, it's good:) LOL!

From what we've read there's a ton of places to eat on The Gap and loads of shopping, did you have a particular problem? What about taxi's? We've read that they can be overpriced and tend to take advantage of tourists.

Also, what is the transportation like? We figure we'll rent a car for a couple days to venture around the island and find some beautiful beaches.

Are bugs a problem, like we had on Ambergris? Bug spray? We are definitely the adventerous ones and don't tend to stay with the main stream of tourist activities.

Thank you all...we really appreciate any information you can share. I'm SOOO looking forward to getting another stamp in our passports:) smile

If I remember correctly the bus system is pretty good and reasonable. I never took a taxi except from the airport so cannot really comment there but yes, they will try to overcharge you so find out first how much it should cost to go from point a to point b. There was a taxi information booth outside the doors at the airport when I was there that had this information.
Basic bug problems. I used the spray in the countryside. If you get the chance take the Jeep Adventure Safari. It's pretty fun and you get to see alot of the island for a reasonable cost. Have a great trip.
