My wife and I will be down for a month, with AC as home base. Due to the length of the trip I will have to bring a laptop and some other gadgets. Does any one have any advice on how to keep this stuff secure? (spiffy ways to lock up etc)

Yes. Keep them in your hands at all times. That will help, but it's still not a guarantee.

We stayed at the Blue Tang in Nov., they have WiFy there. The Coconet Bar has a wall of Computers with High Speed internet. 15 min free with every beer. Sometime's you just have to drink to satisfy your Internet Habit.
