Abortion may have reduced the value of life, but so has sending 1000's of innocent young men to die in foreign lands, and killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people in those foreign lands, for reasons that can't be explained.
Also the teaching of morality is not for the schools, its for the churches and parents, so that each individual has the right to follow his own morality within the boundries of the law. Such is the essence of Freedom.

And when the parents fail to teach that "morality" could we say that the society is doomed?

Not completely, but it's in dire straits.
When we learn about morality, we learn something that was allready inside of us. When we read 'Thou shalt not kill' you dont think,
"Well hey, I never thought that."
Good morality reflects what is allready in the soul. So hopefully people that aren't taught ethics at a young age through parents, will seek it out elsewhere. That's not to say if your parents taught you good morality, you will turn out to be a saint.

and whose view of god shall we teach in our public schools? the ancient Greek gods? the god of the crusades? that of the Native Americans to whom this country first belonged? the Buddhists? the Muslims? What if the god taught in schools is not the god I want my children to learn about?

And whose morality shall we teach in our public schools? that of the party of "family values"? that of those who condone killing in the name of a government? that of those who separate themselves completely from the rest of the world because it is too evil?

Certainly there are families which fail to adequately teach their children, and there are families which teach their children differently from the way in which I would want my children taught, but I don't want the government stepping in to make those decisions for me - or anyone else. I don't want someone else's ideas of god and morality imposed on me by government, nor do I want my government to impose my ideas on others.

Good thoughts law -- I think the problem is less an absence of God and more the presence of entitlement mentality and lack of responsibility.

Though my preacher may argue they are one in the same...

My deity of choice has been, and always will be, Bacchus.

If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before.
