Hello
I am going to Guatemala for Tikal (flying into Flores and staying in El Remate), then will be in San Ignacio and then Caye Caulker for rest of trip. Is it wise to have some of the country's currency on me before I arrive or just bring US $ and travelers checks. Also, are any type of travelers check accepted (visa, mastercard or american express)

US dollars are accepted everywhere in Belize at a rate of 2 BZD to 1 USD. You might be able to get a slightly better exchange rate at the borders from the many money touts who will be there trying to change your money. However, you can use US dollars anywhere - in fact the locals prefer US as they know where to get a better exchange rate. If you change your money at the bank, you will get slightly less than 2 BZD to 1 USD. You can use most credit cards in Belize in the more established and high-end establishments at a cost. The smaller, cheaper and more interesting places prefer cash naturally. Good luck!
