Okay I'm getting excited now.......(not that i wasn't before) and i am now on countdown! 17 more sleeps until I get to AC and 18 more til i see my dh!

We will be there 2 weeks and i do hope to meet some of you on the message board... Marty I do owe you a beer........ thanks for the board and the help.

Besides diving, I am hoping to take hubby out for a day of d.s. fishing one day.... i don't think he's ever been. I did catch a sailfish many many year's ago...... and never will forget that!
it weighed more than i did.... (oh for THOSE days again!)

We are thinking we might like to see some of the mainland Belize too, and I'm really up for suggestions.... we went to Altan Ha and the Spa last time we were there, and think we would like to go back to the spa for a day again.

I've been reading my travel books and wondering if you would suggest we just take a bus and travel around for a couple of days? rent a car? or ?????

Thanks!!!
Ali

Rent a vehicle and head to San Ignacio. Lots to do in the area and lots of choices of hotels - in town, jungle lodges, in the mountains, etc. Or you can wing it on the bus. Chaa Creek has a great spa as well.

okay 2 weeks! getting closer. I have another question. As Norm is flying in from Iraq, I am having to bring everything for 2 people. All of his clothing etc. as well as our dive gear.

One of the questions i have is that I can travel with 2 bags of 50 lbs from Denver to Belize City. And belive me, I will check all i can in at this point. I am also taking a dog and dropping her off in Dallas..... Denver to Dallas to Houston to Belize City.
one of the questions I have is
1. am i allowed to bring 2 bags from Belize City to A.C.?
second question.
2. Norm doesn't get in until the next day at 11:45 in the a.m. would it be best if i just wait for him in B.C.? Spending the night there and meeting up with him.

Thanks for the ideas guys.....

Today was great here. ALMOST 60 degrees! The snow is almost melted from the yard too....... and daffodils are popping up all over the place and trees are budding.....

Hoping to meet some of the board while we are there.

You can take all the luggage you can bring, from Belize City to San Pedro.

Two weeks ago, I arrived with two 50 pound bags, one 30 pound carry-on and a plastic bag containing a blanket, pillow and a jacket.

I left with luggage somewhat lighter but still had all the same number of bags with me.

It may not all arrive on the same plane as you do, but it will be along shortly.

If I were you, I'd go straight to the island and be waiting for Norm with open arms.

Agree with seashell on both questions. Highly suggest going to AC instead of overnighting in Belize City. You can get everything unpacked and ready and meet him at the SP airstrip the next day. Then, you won't have the initial lugging/unpacking of suitcases, equipment, etc. to get in the way of your couple time! You can just go and have fun from there!

THANKS SO MUCH GUYS/ i'm getting so tired having to think of this and that and this to bring and how to pack etc!

I spoke with Norm from Iraq today. He is SO EXCITED to be coming back to AC! I don't know when i have heard his voice this so up!
I just hope all goes well.
I know we want to dive some (me prob. more than him) and to visit some Ruins, I would like to see other parts of the country as well and to meet true Belizian people and make new lifelong friends. You see, I think when he finally has had enough of Iraq, we wnat someplace to settle down besides here. Hmmmmmm I could start the first Belizian Kennel Club! Well, certainly the first Old English Sheepdog Club of Belize! LOL. My friends have been trying to get us to move to San Miguel Allende in Mexico for years. I think i would like to be closer to the ocean........

For stocking up for food........ is it better to show in the island or to go up to Coracol for Sams's club. (or is there one in Belize City?)

Also, I'm kind of a Texas throwback........ steaks. Should i bring some down with me very frozn to have to cook out? Or are they pretty reasonable priced and tasty down there? As i said my downfall is that i dont eat any seafood at all........ catch it clean it and cook it. I'll bring my package of hot dogs while everyone else has a fish/shripm/lobster on the barbie! lol

Besides, diving , and renting a car and driving the rest of the country to sight see , and meet wonderful people, I would love to go out for a day of deep sea fishing........ so someone point me to the best captain for a great day! Norm has never been and this trip is about HIM having some nice things to do......

i cannot thank all of you enough on this board from Marty on down to Susan for helping make this trip a reality. And we hope to meet a bunch of you. And on the reciprocal side of this...... since i do live in one of the most beautiful states if anyone wishes to come to Colorado to either Ski in the winter or hike and fish in the mountains in summer or fall please let me know. I will do all in my power to make your trip a memorable one!!

uh- why don't you send his stuff ahead? You can do this if you call your hotel first and they're expecting it. Call and see what can be done- that way you don't have to lug all kinds of stuff along and you'll know it's already there before you go! You might want to send some of your "summery" stuff along since it's chilly right now where you're at. My sister is getting married at VH and I think she's sending her stuff ahead so she doesn't have to mess with all kinds of things while travelling. Have a GREAT trip with your honey!

Well, I have one bag packed with all of our dive equipment. The other will be packed with the rest of our clothes and suggestions i have had from susan......
The only other i have to do is take the dog with me to the airport, and she get's dropped off in Dallas with her breeder to hopefully make me some puppies while i am gone........ but who knows. Then pick her back up on the way home.... or i'll drive back to Dallas one weekend......
i'm kind of particular about letting my dive equip. out of my sight.
COUNTDOWN NOW!!! I am now getting excited..... i'm having horrible allergy attacks here as the snow is melting fast and spring is springing......

Have you weighed that bag yet? My suitcase, with only all my dive gear (one set incl. full 3mm wetsuit), a few clothes and some odds and ends, was 51 pounds.

That was on the way home. On my way down, I always pack my regs and mask and enough clothes, etc. to get me by if my bags don't show up.

If I were you, I'd think about spreading things around a bit. Just my humble offering to you.
