I am a foreigner here on a work permit. I was thinking about taking the Captains License because I would use it for work.

I don't understand what the problem is if a foreigner goes through the course and knows the waters. This is very disheartening. Any idea of any way for someone like myself to achieve this license?

There has long been speculation on this... When the port authority was in San Pedro a few months ago - I asked them to clarify and re-clarify. They insisted that I DID NOT need a captain's license. Any type of commercial operation whatsoever must have licensed captains. I assume this means transportation, diving, or any type of water-based tour.

If the rule has changed - I'd like to see something a bit more official from the port authority before I get concerned. Does the PT have a website? Do they print these changes on a letterhead?

Let us see if I understand this - I can rent/charter a 50 foot motor yacht out of Key West and operate it myself BUT I will have to hire a "Captain" to use my 23 foot Mako in Belize waters?

FOR SALE --CHEAP -- ONE 23 FOOT MAKO

FOR SALE --CHEAP -- BELIZE ISLAND PROPERTY

I don't think the rule were discussing is the correct way to solve the problem, just saying there is a problem.

There are companies in Florida that will let you charter a boat that size if you can demonstrate a proficiency in your ability to handle it safely. No license needed.

I've already told you more than I know.

Are you allowed to operate in areas of uncharted shoals and coral heads/reefs?
