Last week while I was in Belize, I took a road trip to San Ignacio to see Brion Young and his family. Brion's 12 year old daughter Kenisha was diagnosed with bone cancer several months ago. Thanks to the generous contributions of a few on the ACMB, I was able to send Brion money to help defray a small portion of their expenses. I am happy to report that Kenisha's limb salvaging surgery in Merida Mexico was successful. They replaced part of her femur with a titanium rod and her knee joint with an artifical one, and according to her last scan, the tumor is 100% dead. She has 4 sessions of chemo remaining. Kenisha is walking with crutches and is receiving physical therapy.
Brion has done a tremendous job of educating himself on Osteosarcoma and has been an amazing advocate for Kenisha during this ordeal. His wife Maria has remained at home in Belize caring for Brion Jr, and their new baby boy Chris, born just 8 weeks ago. Brion's employer, Chaa Creek has graciously held his job for him as well. He's been working for them between chemo trips to Merida, and Kenisha gets to be home, getting acquainted with her new baby brother and recovering where she's most comfortable. She looks great!
With so much bad stuff happening in this world, it's such a pleasure to share such a heart warming story about a very special family. Thanks to all who have helped out and sent their good wishes! God speed Kenisha!
