It's been three and a half years since I've been back to CC. (I visited 6 times from 1995 to 2005) I want to return in September, but please tell me it hasn't turned into a little San Pedro. Can you still catch wind surf lessons off of the Sand Box, and do Juni, Carlos, and RAS Creek still offer snorkeling trips? What about cheap lodging, can you still find a room for under $40.00 US?

Here's a link to pictures we took about a year ago. After three trips to stay on CC, we ventured to AC and made a day trip to CC.

Its changing but slowly. I'm not sure about the people. I've always enjoyed snorkeling with Carlos,

Thanks AIJ,
Is there any of the beach still open on the front side of the island? OR, is it all filled with hotels and houses? How many hotels, lodging places are there now? What about the North Side, is there power there yet?

There are a few new hotels/condos although the front part of the island hasn't changed that much. Most hotels now go for around $60 a night and up other than the hostels. The biggest change you will notice is the prices, namely at the restaurants. CC is no longer cheap and costs about the same as most other Caribbean resorts ($3-$4 US for beer and drinks and $15 for a simple dinner). Power has not made it to the North island. There are a few deliver trucks but thankfully it is still mostly golf carts. It's not little SP yet.

C.C still way cheaper than San Pedro..$15 US for dinner?, we only spend that kind of money $30 BZE on special occasions, otherwise we eat at any of the Chinese restaurants, Syds, Sandbox,Tropical Paridise,Marins, Moms is very good, Herbal Tribe, Rose's a few of the BBQ stands for dinner several times a week..$5, to $7 US is tops for us. Their are now more expensive places to eat that are really good for a special nite out.....OH and on Sundays you can get Aunties baked t-bone Steak with homemade gravy, with onions, mashed potatoes and veggie salad with fried rice for $5.00............Get your beer on the back dock at the distributor much cheaper and One Barrel Rum very reasonable for a good rum.

Well said. Exactly the same for us. We spend about US$1200 a month, though we don't really try to save.

Allrighty then....Herbal Tribe and Roses...no way you can get out of there for less than $15US just for dinner. I don't disagree as far as Marins and Syds, great food for $10BZE.

To be honest, speaking as a tourist who would love to live in CC, there are places that are still cheap. Venture off front street and you will find some deals. The little kitchen on back street is great as well as Syds on Middle St (best fried chicken in the world). I travel to CC twice a year and my first stop is always Syds!

Oh and for a great lunch, walk toward the split and take a left just past Oceanside. There is a small place where Mr. Martinez makes stew chicken and rice and beans. It's open from about 11am to 2pm. Most tourists don't know about this so please try it. It's a generous portion and very tasty...I think maybe $6BZE although I don't remember exactly. Whatever the cost it's the best lunch on the island!

I just ate at Roses for dinner tonite. Conch shiskabob cost me USD$12.50. Last summer I sat next to a crowded table at Habenaros and ordered Gnocchi for $14. The guy next to me ordered it as well. I took home the extra and and had it for lunch, too. His share of the bill was $42, because of the drinks.
I don't drink in tourist places.
