Coming this week and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for cell phone rentals or other options for calling the US. It's too expensive to use my US cell phone so I'm wondering if there are better alternatives. Any advise is appreciated.

Dianne from Quiksilver rents phones...and it is SO much cheaper if you buy phone credits...especially if you can "double up".

You can check out her rates at: www.quicksilverbz.com

I've saved a lot by unlocking my US phone, buying a Belizean SIM card, and buying minutes there. On certain days, you can buy double or triple the amount of minutes (triple requires a minimum purchase). Sometimes the phone co sent a text about those days, sometimes I just heard about it from friends or on the radio.

I bought my digicell (BTL) sim card just across the street from the int'l airport before I flew to the island. Convenient, but think I probably should have waited to get a smart card, as their minutes are cheaper.

To call the states use 10-10-199-1-area code-number. It is about 1/2 the price as regular calling. Then when you get back to the states make sure that the phone you use is a sim based phone or buy one of the "go"phones for $19US at walmart. that way you can swap your BZ local sim card out when you get here and use the local number from your sim card, Hope that helps and travel safe.

There are services or people who can unlock your existing phone if it is an AT&T or Sim based phone while you are here. That will let you buy your sim card here. the cheapest place to buy a sim is the BTL office next to the police station on middle street and they can let you pick a number if you need to have a certain number sequence because of memory or children...

If you need help unlocking the telephone, call me or my husband at 623-8411 or 623-8511. Have great trip. Paulette
