The Annual Succotz Fair; food and fun for family this weekend

Wilson Patt

The village of Succotz, on the outskirts of Benque Viejo Town, is a predominantly Mestizo community rich with culture and steeped with traditional art, music and dance. This weekend the annual Succotz Festival takes place and if you're heading to Succotz, you can look forward to good food, fun and plenty of activities for the entire family. Among the many highlights is the Succotz Festival Drum Corp, a favorite marching band that is a staple in the yearly activities. Organizer Wilson Patt told News Five today that musical entertainment will come from as far as Zacapa in neighboring Guatemala.

Wilson Patt, Chairman, Succotz Festival

"It has been a tradition that every year we do a Succotz annual fiesta. This year it will be done on the twentieth, twenty-first and twenty-second of April. Everything will be happening at the Succotz Football Field."

Isani Cayetano

"What can be expected from the activities to be held this time around?"

Wilson Patt

"Okay, traditionally Fridays we do have the opening ceremonies [then a] dance with Sonido Mai who comes from Zacapa, Guatemala. On Saturday we have water activities along the Mopan River and in the night we have dance again with Sonido Mai and Gilharry 7. Sunday from 1 p.m. we call it 'Tarde Entre Familia', that's a family evening [and] everything will be cultural and that starts at one and in the night we continue with a dance with Gilharry 7. Also on Sunday we have everything traditionally from Succotz will be displayed, that is dances, we have marching bands, we have cultural houses from Guatemala coming in also as far as Peten and Melchor and the marching bands also will be accompanying us in the evening. So Sunday afternoon will be a cultural day, that's why we call it 'Tarde Entre Familia.'"
