Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) continues to investigate a fault on its transmission system following an unplanned power outage that affected the entire Cayo, Stann Creek and Toledo Districts yesterday evening.

At 4:56 p.m., power supply was lost to the Western and Southern Zones following a system interruption at the West Lake Substation. BEL immediately commenced investigation into the cause of the system interruption and crews later determined that it was due to a fault on the section of the transmission line between Mollejon and San Ignacio Town.

At 8:03 p.m. power supply was restored to the entire Cayo, Stann Creek and Toledo Districts after BEL isolated Mollejon from the national grid. Having disconnected from its hydro source, the country's power is now being supplied by the Gas Turbine generating unit at West Lake, Belize Cogeneration Energy Limited and Mexico's Comisión Federal de Electricidad. BEL crews continue working into the night to locate and rectify the transmission line fault.

BEL thanks customers for their patience while our crews worked to restore power supply.
