Hi, I'm visiting San Pedro between 17th March and 5th April. I dont want to book accomodation/diving ahead of time if I can avoid it, but my holiday obviously includes Easter.
Can anyone suggest dates when I really aught to book ahead to avoid problems?

You can always find SOMETHING but the best value places and the best-run places tend to book up. The week of Easter is always busy and may be even busier than usual this year as people have put off vacations due to 9/11 but they are coming back strong.
