I am curious if anybody has any information about swimming in the ocean. I have heard that there is sea grass and is not pleasent to swim right off the beach. We are looking for accomodations and are wondering if it is best to find a place that has a pool if we want to swim or not?????

You are getting a bum steer from whoever told you this.
Sea grass has nothing to do with swimming. It is correct that the sea grass is not cut on Ambergris Caye. This is to prevent the island from blowing away during the next hurricane. There are sandy areas here and there in the shallows but usually grass in most areas right along the shore.
It means that in most places you will probably want to wear little dive booties or stockings if you insist on walking into the water from the beach. (It depends on how sensitive your feet are....)
Or you can do what most people do, which is to jump (or go down the steps) on the piers into the water.
The water is clear, warm and delightful and the grass at the bottom has nothing to do with swimming. There are plenty of sandy areas in the low wake zone interspersed with grassy areas on the ocean floor (and you can see fish, grass or not!)

Right. IMAHO the prblem arises when one tries to WALK into the water. Unlike Jersey or Cali, the sand on AC is not firm, it is spongy, almost like mud so it is all sguidgy between your toes. Kinda gross. As the other person said, just use the dock. No problem, Mon.

Not a real problem.......it is just different, as most things are on Ambergris, that is point, to relax and enjoy a different way of living or vacationing. I say just BELIZE IT. What you see in the water is the joy anyhow.

Lotsa cleared nice spots on the piers, and some folks clear a lil around the beach too....
