Not too far beyond Camino Real is Coppola's place, La Lancha. Truly wonderful little lodge. I like it more his two places in Belize, and it's considerably cheaper. It even has a/c.

But as others have said, it's hard to beat waking up in one of the lodges right in the park. Choose one of the two with pools, so you can cool off with a splash in the heat of the afternoon.

My senior moment has finally passed....
I stay at Hotel Peten a quaint little hotel with a great pool over looking the lake. Rates were very fair with breakfast included. You won't be disappointed.

The tour from San Ignacio is great. No transfers you stay with a single van and tour guides. Leaving around 7 am, getting to Tikal around 9;30 6 to 7 hrs in the park including lunch and back in San Ignacio around 6 to 7 pm.
