If shipping more than couple of small items, hire the services of a customs broker. You can find several online. Have had good experience with both Billy Valdez and Milyn Gomez.
Other advice - have a detailed list of goods - your customs broker will tell you what to do and where to post the inventory.
I've always shipped via Hyde Shipping in Miami with positive results.

If what you are shipping is a smaller package - books or something like that, send via post office to San Pedro. You can personally pick up there - the postmaster will open the package and assess duties. You won't need a customs broker for this sort of thing.

is this for Amazon purchases as well or are there different agents who deal with that?

For Amazon, I would recommend U.S Belize Trade, look them up on Facebook, they respond quickly on Messenger. They have a US address and receive your shipment there, send it over to Belize, take care of customs and then send to you.The price they quote is all in. Of course, there are more similar agents, this is the one with whom I have the best experience.
