What is going on at Barrier reef resort? Apparently one of the owners went to complain about the condition of the resort and during the interaction may have used some colorful language.

The new property manager promptly called police, had her arrested and thrown in jail for using insulting words. Then while this owner was in jail proceeded to cut off her power and water. Are these Gestapo tactics the norm now at Barrier reef? Does anybody know more details.

Dear readers .........Please note that this property used to be Reef Village and is just north of the bridge ... It has been renamed and has no relationship whatsoever to The Residences at Barrier Reef, which is located 3.5 miles north of town.

The owner in question not only used colorful language, but a good shove as well. Both of these are considered common assault here. This owner was way behind on her HOA fees, and therefore had her utilities cut. These are not "Gestapo" tactics. Why should all the owners who pay their fees on time have to pay for those who are delinquent?

While this owner was in custody, the police turned her over to immigration because she was here without an up to date visa stamp. Upon further investigation it was discovered that this person was in arrears on her payments to the BTB for short term rental income on her condo. But, hey, thanks for accusing Barrier Reef Resort before you had any facts, and for the lovely topic title...

I prefaced my post with the word APPARENTLY because that is what I was told, and asked if anyone had any more details. As far as the title goes one of the administrators has now changed it.

But they can't change the fact that Barrier Reef resort IS falling apart.

I was there about two weeks ago and the place looks horrible due to continuing management problems. The roads are full of potholes, the gardens are full of weeds, the place needs a paint job big time and there is a huge pile of trash dumped at the North end of the resort.

It is embarrassing to bring guests onto the property.

It is so bad that every time it is mentioned on this forum another company with the same name is very quick to dis-associate themselves from it.

Problems, oh yes there are problems. Frustration can drive people to do things they don't normally do. So yes, get all the facts including asking the owner in question what pushed her over the edge.

This is written from a villa owner that is so frustrated from all the dead-beats that think that by not living at the resort full-time, that it's o.k. not to pay their dues, and not to keep up their property. The association fees are very reasonable, and this is the money that is used to maintain the resort. It's really not fair, that those of us that really care and are responsible homeowners have to share this property with DEAD-BEATS!!!! Agreed that the resort is looking pretty shabby, and I'm not proud of the property at this time-

Maybe they are not paying in protest because the place looks like hell.

I don't know, timeshares are not privy to the same information as owners.

Bottom line is, whomever is in charge is doing a pi$$ poor job of running the place.

As a property owner you have a financial responsibility, not paying your association fees is a cop-out! No denying, management needs to step it up, but a lot of the improvements take $$- NO pity for this loser that's in jail

Not paying rent or fees in protest is always a mistake. Take the proper avenue through your attorney.

Naked Truth, what you don't see, and didn't know, is that multiple changes have occurred in the last couple of years. The whole resort has had to be upgraded - new electrical system, new septic system, new water pump, etc. All the basic infrastructure. Because the original developer (who, by the way, you pay your time share fees to, while he in turn doesn't pay his share of HOA fees) used short cuts and 2nd rate materials.

All of these improvements cost money; money that could otherwise go to painting (which, has in fact been started), road repairs, and other cosmetic jobs. And when owners decide that they don't have to pay their HOA fees, then that holds things up even further.

efforts are continuously being made to improve things here, but there are those who continuously choose to hinder these efforts. So stop blaming "management". It goes way deeper than that.
