National Elite Basketball League season to open January 18, 2018

The National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) will be tipping off its fifth consecutive season on Thursday, January 18, 2018, as the defending champions, Belmopan Bandits, will host the sub-champions San Pedro Tiger Sharks. The game will be played at the UB gymnasium in Belmopan, with tip-off time being 8:30 p.m.

The upcoming season will have 8 teams. Six (6) of the teams from last season will return to participate in the upcoming season. These teams are Orange Walk Running Rebels, Belize Hurricanes, San Pedro Tiger Sharks, Belmopan Bandits, Cayo Western Ballaz and Dangriga Dream Ballers. Belize City No Limit has changed management and their new team name is Belize City Defenders. The eight team participating will be Agharta, which is a team from Chetumal, Mexico.

Meet your 2018 Tiger Sharks Basketball Team!

With the new opening of the National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) 2018 season, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks are gearing up for their first game. On Thursday, January 18th at the University of Belize auditorium in the Capital City of Belmopan, the Tiger Sharks will face defending champions, Belmopan Bandits. The San Pedro Sun caught up with some of the players, as they shared their expectations for the season. We are pleased to present the 2018 San Pedro Tiger Sharks to their fans.

This new season will mark the fifth annual NEBL tournament, in which seven teams will compete for the coveted prize at the end of the competition. The participating teams are: San Pedro Tiger Sharks, Orange Walk Running Rebels, Belize Hurricanes, Belmopan Bandits, Dangriga Dream Ballers, Belize City Defenders (replacing Belize City No Limit), and Verdes, who was previously Cayo Western Ballaz. The opening game between San Pedro Tiger Sharks and Belmopan Bandits will be aired live on The National Channel starting with a pre-game show at 8PM.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks win opening 2018 NEBL game against Belmopan Bandits

The new season of the National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) tipped off on Thursday, January 18th, with sub-champions, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, taking their first victory against the defending 2017 champions, the Belmopan Bandits. Inside the University of Belize gymnasium in the capital city of Belmopan, the island team dominated the match during all four quarters, nailing a 103-74 victory.

The season continues on Friday, January 19th, with a match between Belize Hurricanes and Verdes in Belize City. The other game will take place on Saturday, January 20th in Dangriga Town between Dangriga Dream Ballers and Belize City Defenders. The Tiger Sharks' next game will be on Friday, January 26th against Verdes at the Sacred Heart College in San Ignacio, Cayo District.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks overcome Verdes in their second game of the NEBL

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks recorded their second victory in the 2018 National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) Tournament on Friday, January 26th against Verdes. The island team traveled to San Ignacio in the Cayo District where they managed to snatch the victory from the home team with a final score of 96-84.

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks will be hosting their first home game of the season at the San Pedro High School Auditorium on Saturday, February 3rd against Belize Smart Hurricanes. Fans are encouraged to come out and support your favorite teams. All games start at 9PM.

San Pedro Tiger Sharks net their third win in the 2018 NEBL season

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks continue excelling in the 2018 National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) season, landing their third consecutive victory after defeating Smart Belize Hurricanes on Saturday, February 3rd. The island team faced the visiting team at the Angel Nu�ez Auditorium, where after four quarters of intense action on the court, the Tiger Sharks sealed the game with a final score of 73-58.

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks will not play this weekend. The island team's next game is Saturday, February 17th, when they travel to Dangriga Town to face the Dangriga Dream Ballers at the Russel Chiste Garcia Auditorium. All games begin at 9PM!

Looking ahead: NEBL Week 5 Preview

Week 4 of the NEBL is now in the books, and fans across Belize are left with more questions than answers! With a quarter of the season now complete, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks (3-0) sit atop the standings after dismantling the Belmopan Bandits (1-2), Verdes Basketball (0-3) and the Smart Belize Hurricanes (2-1). The Dangriga Dream Ballers (3-0) have been as impressive in its three games, winning by an average of 16 points per game.

Dangriga Dream Ballers vs San Pedro Tiger Sharks - Russell "Chiste" Garcia Auditorium, Dangriga - February 17, 2018 � Tip off at 9:00 p.m.

In the first marquee matchup of the early season, the league's two remaining undefeated teams will dance in the Culture Capital. The Dream Ballers (3-0) have shown that they are comfortable playing with big leads and managing the pressure of close games. Last week's comeback victory against Verdes highlighted the ability of the Dream Ballers to lock in defensively and score efficiently in possession basketball. This team looks incredibly motivated and well coached, with the look of a team that believes the season will be a disappointment if they do not bring the title to Dangriga�

After their first break in the schedule, the Tiger Sharks will look to pick up where they left off, when they easily handled the cold shooting Hurricanes in San Pedro, 73-58. The Tiger Sharks, now playing their third road game, have been beating teams by an average of 18 points, the highest margin in the league. Coach Rico Black, always a hungry and fearless competitor, will have his team ready to face the hostile crowd expected in Dangriga�

The sub-champions of the 2017 National Elite Basketball League (NEBL), the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, returned from Dangriga Town victorious after defeating Dangriga Dream Ballers on Saturday, February 17th. Held at the Russel Chiste Garcia Auditorium, the Tiger Sharks went up against a difficult opponent who made them work hard for their victory. Throughout the match the scoring stayed tight, pressuring the island team to take advantage of every opportunity to stay in the lead. However, at the end of four grueling quarters, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks managed to steal the victory with a close score of 85-81.

The Tiger Sharks are now the top team in the NEBL, with a clean record of zero defeats. Other games that took place over the weekend included Verdes defeating Belize City Defenders 73-61, and Belmopan Bandits overcoming Orange Walk Running Rebels 82-73.

Saturday, February 24th - San Pedro Tiger Sharks vs. Orange Walk Running Rebels Angel Nu�ez Auditorium in San Pedro Town, 9PM.

One loss, one win, Tiger Sharks still lead in the NEBL

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks maintained their lead in the 2018 National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) tournament despite experiencing their first loss on Friday, February 23rd against the Belize City Defenders. The grueling match ended with a final score of 76-70 in favor of the City's squad. However, the following day, the island played a second game hosting the Orange Walk Running Rebels. At the end of four arduous quarters, the island boys emerged victorious with a final score of 92-86.

Other teams in the tournament were also busy over the weekend with games on Thursday, February 22nd in Belmopan with the Smart Belize Hurricanes overcoming the Belmopan Bandits 81-77. While on Saturday, February 24th Dangriga Dream Ballers defeated Smart Belize Hurricanes 71-66 and on that same day in San Ignacio Town, Verdes crushed Belmopan Bandits 101-70. The action continues this weekend.

Tiger Sharks overcome 2017 NEBL Champs

Another victory was added to the San Pedro Tiger Sharks scorecard on Saturday, March 3rd after they defeated the current National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) 2017 champions, the Belmopan Bandits. The game was held at the Angel Nu�ez Auditorium in San Pedro Town where the 2017 champions and sub-champions clashed in a game that almost resulted in a loss for the Tiger Sharks. But the hard work by the island team paid off and at the end of the four quarters, the Tiger Sharks emerged victorious 95-91.

Other games over the weekend saw Dangriga Dream Ballers closely defeating Belize City Defenders 74-70. Meanwhile, Orange Walk Running Rebels fell short against Verdes who beat them, 73-66. There are more games scheduled for this weekend starting on Friday, March 9th between Belize City Defenders and Smart Belize Hurricanes taking place in Belize City. Then on Saturday, March 10th, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks will be facing Verdes in San Pedro Town. While on that same day Orange Walk Running Rebels will hosting Dangriga Dream Ballers in Orange Walk Town. All games are scheduled to start at 9PM.
