I am not ceritfied and niether is my wife but we had a fantastic experience in the Caymens last year this time and am hopeful to repeat that in AC next month.

Can anyone share their experiences with snorkeling?

Thanks, SB

No need to be certified to snorkel. I would have to say a do not miss place is the Hol Chan Marine Park with Shark Ray Alley. And dive shop can arrange this for you - or most hotels.

Enjoy

Hol Chan and Shark Ray are great, and the best part, the Guide stays with you, and points out more fish to you, than you would see by yourself. Also the Guide makes you feel calm and safe, to enjoy the beauty under the water. Other snorkeling sites are good to great, but the Guide leaves you on your own, and personally I miss that watchful eye of my Guide.

I also recommend Mexico Rocks, not as crowded, fish not as big as Hol Chan but more variety to see, water also clearer.
Have Fun!

Thanks aqtpie2, Chloe, and KJ. Also, we have our own equipment but it is such a pain to haul it. What, if you know, is the quality of the rented equipment on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the best?

Thanks again, SB

Take your equipment. But each Dive shop has good equipment for you to rent/use.

Take your mask at least. I take mask fins and snorkel, but most dive shops have pretty decent equipment - but I would say use your own mask - better fit, no worries.

I agree with others, take your own equipment if possible. You never know if you'll get a good fit on rentals and it could spoil your experience.
Hol Chan/Shark Ray and Mexico Rocks are great. I went with with Alphonso on the "Lil Alphonse" to Mexico Rocks. He's the best. He will tell you the name of everything you see.
Enjoy!

Hol Chan and Shark Ray are okay. By the far the best, we found, is going WAY OUT to Half Moon Caye and Long Caye, out to the outer reef/cayes. Which is a full day trip, and only for the adventurous. But we found out there to be that to be the most plentiful, gorgeous variety of fish-turtles, groupers, all kinds of sponges, coral, and nurse sharks. Great fun....Blue Hole was great too! This trip would be more enjoyable if you are an experienced snorkeler and swimmer.

My husband and I just returned. We did like the reserve and shark ray alley. Although, the current was strong and swimming in the coral side was a bit challenging at times. I heard from another person, who was less experienced that they tried mexican rocks first. And then went to the Hol Chan Reserve. We went with Amigos dive shop. Which rocked. We actually had a guide who pointed stuff out.
