Wolfe's Woofer: Keeping the Peace
"Has anybody seen Linsford lately?" Mario asked. "Not me," Moses said, as he missed sinking the 5 ball in the side pocket of the pool table. The Nosnada Club consists of me, Mario, Juan, Vernon, Moses and Linsford when Maria lets him out of the house. It was Wednesday, our weekly pool tournament night. Vernon said, "I seen him last night passing my house at about seven o'clock." "I haven't seen him since he had to go to court last month," I said. "That was after he got in that fight with Dario."

What's New: Wet Corner Car Wash
They say necessity is the mother of invention, and 'they' would be right. When one golf cart owner found that keeping his cart clean added up quickly, he realized that others must find it just as expensive too. Not only was he inconvenienced by the price, but timeliness was another issue. Thus, he brainstormed and decided to open his own car wash to suit everyone seeking professional service, and Wet Corner Car Wash came to be! Located on Sea Grape Drive, Wet Corner strives to provide its customers with the best in professional services. From a simple hand wash and vacuum to waxing and polishing and full interior/exterior detailing, their pride is in a job well done. Their popular $35 service brings an overall wash and oil bath, shine treatment, and tire care.

Doctor Love: P's and Q's
Dear Doctor Love, I'd like to respond to "Not Sorry," a mother of a toddler who doesn't make her child say "please" and "thank you." I want to see her letter to you when this kid is fifteen and is an ungrateful, demanding teenager who shows no consideration for anyone and girls ignore him because he is impolite. How will this mother feel when he treats her like the maid, telling her to get him a sandwich or take him to practice? She's setting her son up for social and relationship failure by not teaching him that please and thank you are not just words they are the epitome of courtesy and good manners.

Corruption is a true enemy to development
The Belize Peace Movement (BPM) is appalled at the prime minister's response to the latest mega scandal engulfing his government, his law firm and himself. This scandal came to public attention with the publication of a 50-page document filed in the Southern Court of Florida by the United State investigators known as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The document names the prime minister, deputy prime minister and other cabinet ministers, as well as a government Senator, the past and present governors of the Central Bank and senior managers of Atlantic International Bank Limited. The scandal was mastermind by a convicted American whose company, Sanctuary Bay, sold over 1,400 properties at hundreds of thousands of dollars each. Some one hundred million US dollars were embezzled by sanctuary Bay. The properties were part of a large track of land in Southern Belize for which it is unclear if the required taxes were paid to the ministry of lands.

NORTHERN MAYA OF BELIZE
For many years we have heard little of the Northern Maya of Belize. Many do not know that we, the Maya Masewal in Belize, are the ones who stood up against the British imperialism during the Guerra Social Maya (Caste War). During and after the Caste War it has not been easy for us. After our Maya villages were burned down in Yalbac in 1867 and again in 1930's by the British, we had to move to more populated areas of Northern and Western Belize. Our great grandparents and grandparents were punished in Belizean schools for simply speaking Maya and they were ridiculed for their culture and beliefs. They made them feel that being Maya was bad. Many of our grandparents to avoid more discrimination did not teach Maya to our parents.

Garifuna Collective brings native culture, heaps of rhythm to Music Haven
A lot has been written about Music Haven recently which, considering it's the 30th anniversary of the summer concert series, makes sense. To be brief, Mona Golub and the Music Haven team provide an essential service to the local arts and culture scene. Through Music Haven shows, folks are introduced to music they'd likely never otherwise hear. And most importantly, particularly at this moment in our nation's existence, they're exposed to cultures they may otherwise have never known existed. Take Sunday night's show, headlined by the Garifuna Collective. How many people are familiar with the Belizean band, much less with the history of the Garifuna culture? The Garifuna are an Afro-indigineous group that originally came from the Caribbean, was exiled to Honduras and eventually settled in Belize.
