The Caye Caulker Village Council is aware that as a community we are now encountering

 Traffic Jams
The street is now being used as parking by many hotels and bars which results in street congestion and limited space for pedestrians
Weight per vehicular unit as we live above one of the most complex limestone cave systems
Street maintenance is exorbitant for the Caye Caulker Village Council
Some system is required to monitor the current amount of vehicular traffic on Caye Caulker (north/ south) before there is more confusion with accountability and traffic regulation. The Central Building Authority also needs to regulate that parking lots are an immediate part of any accommodation design.

Caye Caulker is a tourism product and one that factors into the growth and development of all of Belize. Caye Caulker contributes its fair share of tax dollars (GST, Social Security, Hotel Tax, Business Tax, and Income Tax)

The Caye Caulker Village Council would hope that the community and The Council have some input on how the traffic impacts our community and our tourism product. Our tiny island is only five miles long, with three main streets and constant repair is needed to maintain them and it is costly.

Thank you,
Caye Caulker Village Council
