In case you missed it, the Belize Forest Department is reminding the general public that the hunting season for gibnut, iguana, armadillo and game birds is currently closed. The Department has found it necessary to advise the public in light of the upcoming La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge and Easter Celebrations. This means anyone hunting or caught selling any of the animals listed as out of season commits an offense. Closed seasons for game species are necessary to allow wildlife to reproduce. The Department says that respecting the closed season helps to ensure that wildlife populations remain healthy for the future. The Forest Department added that a Hunter's License is needed to hunt, and a Dealer's License is needed to buy or sell the mentioned species. This includes the hicatee, peccary, and deer.
