We'll be there in about 15 days and can't wait to get out of the cold. We've booked a sail boat with TMM for seven days. Has anyone had any experience or suggestions on sailing the cayes?

Do your provisioning in San Pedro. There is not much available elsewhere.
Rendezvouz Caye is gorgeous and the snorkeling is awesome (I am sure the diving is even better, if you are divers). Tobacco Caye is a fun place, the people are very friendly.

We'll be right behind you ... sailing with TMM in February. Be sure to post a report when you get back!! Unlike some of the other charter destinations we've sailed, there is definitely a shortage of reports on Belize sailing, so we're starved for info. Have you gotten the Freya Rauscher cruising guide?

Here's a lil info on liveaboards, but I'd love a report from TMM to add in here!

We own one of the TMM boats and have made the trip five time so far. We have learned much from asking questions of anyone at TMM. Since we have been sailing in the same area so many time we have slowed our pace and taken in a little more of the island before setting sail. It all depends on what you would like to experience and how much time you have. I like to do my own provisioning which entails renting a golf cart and going to several different places. If you have the golf cart long enough you can do some site seeing and lunch at Sweet Basils Cafe across the cut. We also like to do the Hol Chan trip before sailing incase we are pressed for time at the end of our week. Where you sail to and how long it takes depends on the winds and if you want to stop anywhere. I can give you some suggestions if you are interested. You can reach me at [email protected]

Thanks for the responses. We have a couple days before and after the boat. I learned that getting off a boat after a week and running to catach a plane is not pleasant. Sailor Girl, We did get the sailing guide provided by TMM. I see that your home port is on the Chesapeak, your real name wouldn't be Anne by any chance.
Catamarannan, I have lots of questions I'll e-mail you later.

You might enjoy the journal of my husband's sail from North Carolina to Belize (there's a little bit about sailing in Belize and to the Rio Dulce too) at: //www.ambergriscaye.com/xaloc/ (at least you'll learn a few things NOT to do!!).

There are pics of the sail at: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291565679

for pics of our sailing around Belize and to the Rio Dulce, check out: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291565063

Hi Styx ... no, my name is not Anne (it's Eva). We've been to Belize before, but land-based, and are avid sailors, both on the Bay (we own a Sabre 34 which we keep in Annapolis) and throughout the islands on charter. You can check out some of our stories at my website: Islandtime
