If the weather is good, it would still be a divine way to spend a day. The two followup dives are fabulous, lunch and the time spent on Half Moon Caye are wonderful. A day out on the ocean, idyllic islands, blue holes, fishies, sigh . . . belikens and panty-rippers on the way home . . . sigh

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

I did the blue hole deep dive many (way too many) years ago with Reef Roamer. Now there is a blast from the past... Saw it, enjoyed it for the very short 8 minutes at depth, and have no burning desire to do it again.

It was an interesting experience diving that deep, the formations were intriguing, but once was plenty for me. I had a couple dozen dives under my belt at the time but it was my first and only dive to that depth. There was no life other than the lichen-like growths on the stalagmites and stalgtites. They didn't chum for the sharks back then like they do now. The safety stop was on the rim was where all the fish were and that made those 15 minutes enjoyable.

I'll still take dive trips to the Blue Hole though I only snorkel up top around the rim while the others dive. Later I join in with the group and dive the other sites like HalfMoon wall, The Aquarium or wherever the other following dives are. To me it is worth the money for the other sites and the nice picnic lunch. The other divers on the boat kinda look at me funny because I choose to sit it out.

Sent a newly certified friend down who was hot to dive the hole last year, she maybe had 10 dives. Made sure to tell her to get a diveshop that was safety concious and undestood the experience level. She did a couple dives with the chosen diveshop the day before the trip to get acclimated, properly weighted and show them her skills.

On the Blue Hole dive the shop sent a Divemaster leading, a safety diver mid-group and an Instructor following the group into the water. The plan being if anyone had to abort they broke one of them off to take them up, leaving 2 still tending the group. The boat had emergency supplies including oxygen.

She came back beaming.

I'm glad I read this post, we were originally going to dive the blue hole , we definitly consider ourselves novice-intermediate divers. we dove alot 1990-94 (lived in Hawaii) then none 1994-2000 and started up again 2001, one week dive trips the last two years.
I am considering still going to blue hole and snorkel there then diving the two other dives, just to see "the blue hole" but wonder how the turneffe elbow and turneffe north dive trips compare. we are going with amigos del mar. any input aprecciated

Pryor, my recommendation to you is that you do a few local dives (the reef just off San Pedro, I mean) as refreshers. Get the feel again for diving and then after a few days if you are feeling good, go ahead and do the Blue Hole dive. In your case, I don't think you would regret it and the cost for going all that way to snorkel the Blue Hole, with followup dives is close enough to the same as a Blue Hole dive with the followups.

As for whether you should pick one day trip over the other, that is very hard for me to recommend, inasmuch as, I always try to do both.
