Portuguese man o' war jellyfish
When the rainy season is here it brings some good old friends that we just have to keep away from. Pretty but dangerous. Found them in the morning at the beach on Caye Caulker. Their tentacles can taper out to 100 feet.
If you hold it with your bare hand it won't burn you. But best is to left them alone. I will never forget the sting and pain that gave me.. nothing fu play with. Really beautiful and not so dangerous... If you are not alergic...
Marty Casado: My wife got hit bad once, just as we came up from a dive. It looked like she was whipped repeatedly on her back. Luckily the dive guide had windex, it was plenty bad even after applying windex... Lasted several days...
Natalie Arceo: I have had the misfortune of bring stung while swimming, swam right into the tentacles. I didn't see it. HORRIBLE. We were out at sea and had just began our day so my dad poured gasoline on it and rubbed on my under arm. Remarkably, the gasoline worked. IDK if it has any properties that helped or I if i passed out from the fumes lol. But in an hour I was better and got back in the water.
Janis Morin:
Back in the day someone just peed on the sting!
Misty D. Schlegel:
We were snorkeling with our 5 yr old. We pulled her into the boat screaming. She had a tentacle wrapped around her neck!
