The ancient Maya elite with colourful headdresses
The ancient Maya elite wore colourful headdresses and for these they prized the long blue green tail feathers of the quetzal, and other birds with magnificent plumage, and used them to embellish their headdresses. These magnificent headdresses were further embellished with animal skins, especially the jaguar's, jade, animal teeth and even claws.
