Catholic Mission: Church, Priest's House, School, Sister's Home, Old El Cayo long ago
This is VICTORIA STREET leading from Police Station to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
This is perhaps one of the oldest named Streets, in Old El Cayo. Others being Kings street, Mossiah Street, Waight Street, leading to the Hospital, Wyatt Street, Church Street, Front Street ( now Burns Avenue) and Savannah Street. ( of course Branch Mouth Road also called CAMINO REAL, and Horse Race Track.
The building on the left was Sacred Heart School. - The Pallotine Convent is behind the school, The Priest's residence on the right. Most of the houses in San Ignacio were made of thatch roof with white marl sidings. ( COOL HOUSES no fan needed.)
To get this view today, you stand between two of Busman buildings and you take a shot. The school is no longer there and the Church has changed a bit. Where the Thatch house was is nearly a Sky Scraper.
