The Weller House (The strongest wooden house in Belize) in North Stann Creek Valley
This remarkable house was started in the 1960’s and is still standing today. The complete house was made out of old boards and everything on it is double strapped and supported by several different supporting beams. This is why this house takes the distinction of the strongest wooden house in Belize. Each piece of board was cut out to fit the other without any space in-between even the interior furniture is hand-made.
This house took a long time to build, but was built with precision, and with pride. It is a landmark and a relic in the valley and there are many stories about this house. Some say it is haunted, some say that it could not be finished because of the curse of a spurned lover, some even say that a room was built at the very top for the Right Honorable George Cadle Price. Many of the stories are just fables made up by curious passersby who were probably too scared to stop and inquire about the origins of the house.
