Bicycles and foot traffic on Queen Street, Belize, British Honduras, long ago
This is an interesting photo. It is interesting because in the old days we used to drive and ride on the left hand side. If you notice the gentleman on the bike has gone around the island instead of going straight over the bridge as we do today. That is because he is riding on the left rather than the right. The other two bicycles on the left are getting ready to do that same as well. I am in the belief that that is why we were taught to walk on the right hand side of the street when we were small. This is so because in the old days we could have seen cars approaching us as they drove on the left, but some how after we went to right hand driving we continued to walk on the right when we should have made the change to the left. It makes more safety sense to walk towards vehicles coming toward you rather than coming behind you. Regent Albert
