Dangriga fisherman with cast net
The waters off Dangriga are extremely rich. Nutrients the North Stann Creek carries to the sea spread out and flow south with the prevailing currents. Vast numbers of small fish called sprat feed on the river debris. The fish can be so thick at times it looks as if you could walk on water on top of the schools. Jacks and snappers feast on the bounty from below while pelicans, terns, egrets, herons, cormorants and humans hunt from above.
