Eusebio Baron of Caye Caulker and his family, long ago
If you have the last name of Avila, Reyes, Alamina, Bareirro, Zaldivar, Marin, Rodriguez, Villanueva, Carasco, Gomez, Guiterrez. Smith, Lopez, Nunez, Sabido, or Williams and you have a connection to Caye Caulker, it is very likely that you are the descendant of Eusebio Baron (Photo 1). Eusebio migrated to Caye Caulker circa 1850s from Cozumel Mexico. I don't know anything about his family in Cozumel or where they are from originally. Perhaps someone reading this post will know and can add in the comments. He was married to Carmen Bareirro of Spain. While in Cozumel, it seemed that he grew coconuts and was a fisherman while in Caye Caulker according to his son's Igancio Avila's marriage registry (photo 3) in 1927. It is believed Eusebio and Carmen had eight children.
The second photo is that of my dad's family, the Avilas. Anita Baron Avila (my paternal grandmother) was one of the eight children of Eusebio and Carmen (seated front row). I am in the belief that they are one of the first Avilas of Belize City. Anita was married to Ignacio "Nacho" Avila (son of Encarnacion Avila). They had nine children: Back row starting from the left, Judith (USA) Ray (USA), Alberto (my dad deceased), Vilma, and Alvaro (deceased). Front row left: Raul, Maryanne (USA), Ignacio (grandfather deceased), Anita (grandmother deceased), Rudy (deceased), and Eusebio (deceased).
