The Jéets Méek ritual done by the Yucatec Maya people of Belize
The Jéets Méek, pronounced as Héets Méek, is a ritual done by the Yucatec Maya people of Belize. The ritual is done when the boys have 4 months old and the girls 3 months old. Some may call it "the Maya baptism" but it is not a baptism. It is more like a presentation of the child. The ritual is done normally by a Nojoch Tata or Nojoch Chiich a elder of the community. The Jéets Méek in the picture was done in the 2018 in the Maya community of Cristo Rey in the Corozal district. Part of the rich culture of Belize.
