Nuevo Mi Amor Hotel in Orange Walk, Early 1970's
It was the leading hotel in Orange Walk at that time. The little house in the back is where SP is now, Satul and Bartola Pott lived there then.
Carmen Sabido-Escobar:
My father seems to partly recall the identity of the couple in the photo. The gentleman was the Governor of the Rotary Clubs (Central America) and was visiting the Rotary Club in Orange Walk. He was from Panama, last name Harrington. I think the Rotary Clubs were divided in regions(internationally) back in the day. The Rotary Club met at the hotel (Nuevo Mi Amor) weekly, and after meetings some members would slide over to bar across the street owned by Salas. It is my understanding that the sessions at Salas were longer than the actual meetings!
Neddy Urbina:
In 1974 the Mi Amor Hotel & Restaurant was sold to the Urbina Bros. Mr S. Tillet was the original owner. His first Hotel and Restaurant was completly burnt down in the 1960s I think. Mrs Elorine remained as the head cook throughout the years with the Urbinas. By the way she is still alive going strong at 102 years (in 2021).
VicTrish Tillett:
That's when my Grandma Elorine Tillett, Was the Head Cook, and the Best Cook in Orange Walk.. And still is, in her Golden years.
Juan Ricardo Balam Leal:
We stopped all the time there when we traveled to Chetumal for a snack and I went to the dances from time to time when I played the Canary Islands group. nice memories.
Mirtha Angel Torres:
This Hotel Restaurant made history, it was a must stop for Mexican truckers also in those days, I lived next door briefly, we also sold our corner property to them.
Ceasar Young:
The cane trucks use to park in front of the house by the street side. I use to sit out there with my cousins and pull the sugar cane off to chew on.
