Belize Hotel Association to meet







The Belize Hotel Association will be holding its quarterly general membership meeting on Thursday, January 7th at 9:00 a.m. at the Chateau Caribbean Hotel. Attending the meeting will be the Hon. Mark Espat, Minister of Tourism as well as Ms. Valerie Woods, Director of BTB and her two Deputy Directors, Pedro Perez and Tracey Garcia. They have all agreed to be a part of the discussions.

Mr. Perez, Deputy Director of product development, will specifically address the items of labor, taxation, work permits, minimum standards for hotels and training for the industry.

Mrs. Garcia, Deputy Director for marketing has agreed to share the draft marketing proposal made to the BTB by Pope and Clarke, the new marketing agents for the BTB.

This is the ideal opportunity for you to get updated on what is happening in the industry.

The proposed agenda will include:

1. Labor issues including work permits and residency as it relates to the hotel sector.

2. Taxation issues including the hotel tax and the recommendations of the tax reform commission.

3. Other legislative matters including the Hotel Minimum Standards SI, review and potential revision of the Hotel Act, and review and potential revision of the Belize Tourist Board Act.
