I will be in the area from Jan 30th to Feb 11 and am a certified Padi Dive Master.

I have been unable to get ahold of Frenchie's and don't know if he will need any help during that time. I would also like to know if Alex is back on the island or is he still working on the mian-land.

You cannot Dive Master (basically 'Work') in Belize without a Work Permit.

To get a work permit in Belize, you have to reside here at least 6 months to 1 year, and even then it is difficult.

Great dream though.... maybe someday you can come retire here and then Dive Master ....

'Airfare and boat' costs money, so it is still working for money, except that you would be getting PAID in full up front....smart.

What you are proposing is a "Barter"; it is still business and payment is being made.

But that is still not the point. A foreigner cannot work in Belize without a work permit, even if it is completely voluntary.

The idea is that you would be taking up a post a Belizean can hold, even if you were really only VOLUNTEERING....

Randall, don't bang heads with Mermaid, what she says is correct, she could have been softer about saying it, she is just protecting local interest, I don't blame her. You asked a fair question, you just asked it in the wrong place.

No harshness intended, but some people do take a little longer than others to get the message. There was another girl on the board with a similar request some time back, and it also took her several messages to get the idea.

Basically, people have a DREAM and they don't want to get rid of it, no matter what you tell them....and who can blame them? We are entitled to our dreams aren't we?

But while they are asking, and they want REAL ANSWERS, then I think they should get it; because they are now crossing the line between Dream and Reality.

Anyway, again, I apologize if my tongue seems a bit salted at times...

We must protect our piece of paradise for those who are from here, I feel that SP may soon become another Cozumel, with time share, condos and cruise ships, and another beautiful place will be destroyed forever.
