Does anyone know where I could get information on building regulations to construct a small cabana on a vacant lot?
Thanks!

There are no buiding codes in Caye Caulker village.Just remember the hurricanes. Wooden houses that were built smart withstood the storms for as long as 80 years or more. Nearly every buiding you see on Caye Caulker lasted through Keith in 2000.Some oldtimers say they come every 40 years.

Dane, I do not know where to beging but I must correct information that you are passing out. To begin with the Central Housing & Planning Act applies to all of Belize and includes building on Caye Caulker. Secondly, Caye Caulker now requires that all commerical structures whether done in phases or completely obtain environmental clearance. We no longer accept septic tanks as alternatives to sewage disposal and anerobic systems must be used. THere is also the issue with waste water.

So as you see Caye Caulker is changing and is definitely not what it was when you visited many years ago. This is one of the reason why we had you and quiet a few of your neighbours put in septic tanks a few years ago instead of the drums that you had. I understand that the lady that just purchased the house from you had is doing so as well since you failed to do this.

I urge you to get a hold of me before visitors or new residents get the wrong idea about Caye Caulker. YOURS BETO

Sorry Beto. I didn't know that they had established building codes recently for a cabin. Didn't mean to misinform the guy.I will check with you in advance next time.
