Several Caye Caulker businesses are complaining loudly of the stray cat / dog problem on the island.
According to one restaurant owner who wished to remain anonymous, there are literally hundreds of stray cats in every nook and cranny of every building on the island multiplying like cockroaches and creating a health problem for the island.
Many residents have indeed noticed the proliferation of kittens in the recent months that is seemingly going unchecked by the authorities.
While there are still too many stray dogs on the island, the kind folks of Belize Diving Service do an invaluable kindness by volunteering selflessly to keep strays spayed and neutered.
Unleashed and/or unfenced dogs are a huge nuisance as well doing damage to the property of others and the owners should be held liable.
While the dog situation is being monitored, however, the same cannot be said of the cat problem.
