We are planning our first trip to Belize. Looking at 8 or 9 days in September. Found a place we are considering-Dianes Beach House on Caulker Caye. Anyone familiar with this house? Good location? If so is it within walking distance of town for groceries, restaurants, bars and snorkeling? Any recommendations for other places to stay? We want a kitchen so we can cook some meals and save some $.

Thanks for any advise/help or suggestions!

Diane's is right in the action, walking distance to everything. Diane is one of the famous Auxillou sisters who have adjacent condo-tels on the front right near the water taxi. I have not been inside all of the sister's rooms, but they are generally VERY nice for Caye Caulker and you get what you pay for...

Other sites I would check out if a kitchen is required:

Thanks for the response KBNYC. Since this is our first time in Belize, I'm doing what I always do-some basic trip research so we know the lay of the land-even though it may be just a small island!
Another question if you don't mind. I've read that the water taxis are around $15. Is that per person? In US $ or BZD? Also, can you purchase a ticket that allows you to use the ferry more that once? Like a pass for a week or so many trips? Sorry for all the questions, but I hate flying blind.

Not that it matters but water taxi is $7.50 each way. They actually lowered the fare some time ago, after they raised it??? Its $15 US R.T. Dianes is a good choice,

Their are several great deals on airfare, $399 RT from East Coast, West Coast, and points inbetween, with Taxes about $445. United, Continental, American, Taca have all seemed to join in. The sale was suppose to be over Aug6, but most have extended it. Must travel by Dec 21.

Cooper, where did you find these deals? I have searched every airline and online travel service that I can think of and the cheapest I have found is around $700.00 from the east coast and that is with an overnight layover. Would appreciate the help! The more money we save on flights the more snorkeling, diving and belikens we can buy!

Look on the airlines web site, not expedia, kayak etc. Then search deals, or web specials, you have to read fare rules as these fares are only good on certain days of the week, like tues, wed, and sat.Travel for most these fares are good for use between Aug 30, and Dec 21. as I said at first tickets had to be purchased by Aug 6th but some airlines extended that. I am off to San Pedro in a few minutes, when I get back this afternoon I will check again and put up some links.

You might want to check out the hotels that have pools, Iguana Reef Inn and Seaside Cabanas. They are both in the center of the village as well. Just google them.

Well, I checked airlines, they usually change Web Deals on Sunday/ Monday. Now they are having a sale from Miami and Houston to Belize, $118 one way on Taca, The other airlines are a bit more. Continentals web deals site was temp. down for posting of new deals. You really have to check things out weekly.
Thanks Dane for the kind words.

Cooper, thanks for all your help. We're in NC so a ride to Atlanta for a cheap flight might be our best bet. I'm sure I'll run something down! If you happen to hear of anything- Anyone!- I'll appreciate the tip! Hope to see you all soon!

Haven't been there for 2 years but stayed in "Banana Cabana" the first time I was there. Last time they were enclosing the lower area...presumably to create another rental. You're gonna love Caye Caulker...I'm jealous!

Caye Caulker is up and running, ready for visitors now, all I can see is a bit of seaweed and beach cleanup, but even that is not bad.

I usually check sidestep.com which compares all airlines, then go directly to the airline's website to book it. Keep checking almost every day till you see a good fare or sale. They change daily...

Still with sidestep, kayak, etc, their are lots of sites that do the same thing in checking all airlines and travel sites, its best to check individual airlines, a few months ago I found a good fare with Continental on Sidestep, went to continental and did a new search and saved additional $100. Taxes had nothing to do with it.

We will be in CC from Nov. 3 until Nov 17th. Cheapest we could get was 1200 round trip. We are way up in Western NY. Not many flights from here. Still not bad considering we love the go slow vibe of CC. When you are there we should meet some place. We are going with another couple. We rented a house for the 2 weeks. We can't wait. Been counting the days.

The $1200 was for both of us including taxes. No direct flights from here. From Rochester, (we have to get a motel the night before) flight leaves @ a little before 7 a.m. to Charlotte then into Belize. when will you be there Super?

Thats way to far from me. Rochester is 90 minutes Rhode Island is
6 hours away. We live in a small area of New York, mostly farms and small villages.

I live near Syracuse and the only place I have seen flights where you don't have to overnight is out of Buffalo. But not daily service in low season. I always have to overnight in Chicago or Dallas. And I usually check SYR, ROC & BUF for flight options.

The only reason we are staying the night before is we do not want to have to get up at 2 in the morning to catch a flight in Rochester. If we left from here Corning area the flight would last almost 22 hours. From Rochester only 6. Big difference. Still can't wait tho. Got 53 days and counting. Gonna leave the cold behind.

I guess I have the same question as Happywhenwet, I have not seen prices that low in quite awhile for travel in December and I basically check everywhere.

Cooking for yourself on CC isn't all that
much of money saver considering how cheap
food is at the bakery and various food stands
and restaurants.

Is there much of a problem with sandfleas/no-see-em's? If so what is the best repellant? They were awful in Roatan.
