The Caribbean Sea

A strong 500 mb ridge covers the area from the Bahamas to the central and eastern Caribbean, west of 64W. Dry air covers much of the eastern and central Caribbean, where only isolated showers are found. Isolated to scattered showers are near Trinidad and in the area over and south of Cuba. Latest ASCAT pass shows fresh trade winds over much of the eastern and central Caribbean, with strong trades south of 15N to the coast of Colombia between 72W- 77W. Moderate winds are over the western Caribbean except for the Gulf of Honduras northward to the Yucatan Channel, where stronger winds are occurring.

High pres NE of the area will support fresh to strong trade winds in the S central Caribbean through Sun, diminishing Sun night into early next week as the high weakens. Fresh to strong winds in the Gulf of Honduras will diminish Fri afternoon as the pres gradient weakens. A cold front will move into the NW Caribbean by Fri night, then weaken and become stationary from central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras Sat night. Fresh to locally strong northerly winds are expected in the wake of the front Fri night and Sat, highest near the Yucatan Channel.

I saw that front line over the Gulf last night, but I had not expected its advance front to have got to Belize until later today, but it has now fully crossed Belize from the NNW, and there is some inter-reaction with it and the high level from the SW, as a result, there has been some rain in parts of central Belize. That is a very active front line and has been causing tornadoes and severe weather in the southern parts of the USA.

Looks as if most of Belize will be cloudy today, there are some sunny areas in parts of south Belize, not much rain at present, but could be a few more rain showers over the day.

Here is the real front that I was expecting, but more active than expected. Rain is increasing over much of the country, as the high level winds are now causing more clashing.

Rain along the Macal, no wind or lightning. Thunder was earlier in day but more distant rumbles. Tomorrow is supposed to be the big rain day in San Ignacio area. Holy Saturday rain.

Several power failure moments and the internet was off a few minutes.

Tomorrows WEATHER for - Sat 20 Apr 2019

It would appear this rain will move away over night and tomorrow will be significantly cloudy but much cooler.
There could still be a few rain showers, but not so much.
