General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly sunny, a few clouds in the NW and SW. Mainly fair weather prevails.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny skies today and partly cloudy skies tonight. Only isolated showers are expected.

Outlook: For Friday is for mainly fair and warm weather followed by an increase in showers and possible isolated thunderstorms late Friday night into Saturday morning as a cold front approaches the country.

The Caribbean Sea

A surface trough extends from 23N83W to 21N86W. Scattered moderate convection is over the NW Caribbean in the Yucatan Channel north of 18N and west of 83W. Scattered showers and tstorms are also seen over portions of Panama and Costa Rica and the Lesser Antilles. Elsewhere, relatively dry air covers the basin due to broad mid-level ridging. The latest ASCAT pass from late Wed morning shows generally gentle winds across most of the basin.

Weak high pressure north of the region will maintain gentle to moderate trade winds across most of the Caribbean through Thu night. Strong to near gale force winds are expected near the coast of Colombia this weekend as high pressure builds north of the area. Winds and seas will increase over the NW Caribbean Sat through Sun night as a cold front moves across the area.

OP Marty	There is a plume of Saharan Dust approaching the Caribbean which is expected to begin moving over some eastern islands from today January 30th, reducing air quality. Persons with respiratory ailments should take the necessary precautions.

OP Marty	There was certainly some weather that came in from the NW, under the SW high level winds yesterday, not obvious what it was, but it caused higher night temperatures for us and it did cause some areas of rain in the Yucatan. This morning there is a general area of fog or low flying cloud over most of Belize and some cloud coming in from the west, and mid level air from the NW At the same time, ther also appears to be some cooler air coming down from the north. Looks as of today will be largely cloudy, but some patches of sunshine in some places, presently, no indication of any rain. Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last night min. 23°C 73°F Yesterday max. 30°C 86°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0" )
