Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There is one tropical wave in the Atlantic, and none in the Caribbean.

A slow moving cold front extends from central Cuba to across the NW Caribbean to the north-central coast of Honduras. Convection has sparked overnight with scattered showers and thunderstorms along and within 60 nm ahead of the front including across central Cuba, the Cayman Islands, and Honduras. Moderate to fresh winds continue west of the front, along with 5 to 8 ft seas, except 8 to 12 ft near the Yucatan Channel. Refer to the Monsoon Trough/ITCZ section for additional convection in the basin. Moderate to locally fresh trades and seas of 3 to 5 ft prevail across the eastern Caribbean to 73W, with light and variable winds and seas of 2 to 4 ft west of 73W to the front.

For the forecast, the slow moving cold front will move through the NW Caribbean this weekend, before stalling Sun night from eastern Cuba to offshore Nicaragua. Moderate to fresh NW winds and seas of up to 12 ft can be expected in the wake of the cold front, especially in and near the Yucatan Channel. Elsewhere, a weak ridge over the northern Caribbean Sea ahead of the front will support mainly gentle to moderate trade winds across the basin, with locally fresh winds off the coast of Venezuela.

There are still currently no organized tropical systems in the Atlantic basin; however, an area of low pressure in the central Atlantic bears watching in the coming days.

While currently non-tropical, this low is expected to track across an area of warmer water and through a region of relatively light wind shear. These factors could lead to the low gaining tropical characteristics over the weekend and early next week. This is actually the same area of low pressure that slammed the northeastern United States with damaging winds and flooding rainfall early in the past week. Regardless of tropical development, the low is currently not expected to bring direct impacts to land through early next week, though should it track farther to the east, it may brush the Azores with rain and wind around the middle of next week.

Elsewhere across the Atlantic, no tropical development is expected during the next several days.

On Ambergris Caye this morning we have a calm sea condition around our barrier reef from a NW wind blowing at 10 mph.

Awesome photo Elbert!

There is completely cloud free air coming down over most of central America, right from Canada, and across most of the Gulf. So our temperatures have got significantly cooler yesterday and last night. Presently, the front fight line is over Honduras and the Caribbean, but there is high level cloud from the SW over Belize. There is a significant surface "Tiger" wind from the SW.

Looks as if today will be bright, but a bit hazy due to the high level cloud, but no rain.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 24°C 75°F Yesterday max. 30°C 86°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0") Over Night Rain 0 mm ( 0" )

Cold front air still coming down from the NW, high level thin clouds from the SW and the "Tiger" surface wind over Belmopan still strong from the SW. No rain around.
