Galvez House in San Ignacio, formerly the Astoria Club, the Manuel Matus Store, Tony's Inn and Restaurant, among other things
The Galvez house. One of the oldest houses in San Ignacio. Survived the big fires of downtown. The Galves family lived upstairs floor. Astoria Club was the lower flat. This building used to be the Astoria Club. The Astoria Club was also home to The Lions Club that many people got financial help for living a decent life. It also was Tony's Inn and Restaurant owned by Mr. Carlos Harrison. The best fry chicken, fries, and hamburgers.
An oriental Chinese restaurant was also on the ground floor before Tia San restaurant, which is there now.
My grandfather Henry Pooh use to sell his vegetables on the right hand corner, Astoria Club was inside, in the early sixties.
It also used to be a whore house.
